Poll: 2 new franchises or 2nd division and top 2 promoted.

There has been a lot of talk recently surrounding a 2nd division being made up of the existing NPL teams from across the country.

The Association of Australian Football Clubs (AAFC) has recently elected its inaugural board and it is likely that they will start to agitate for movement on the long awaited second tier.

At the other end of the spectrum the FFA seems keen to maintain its stranglehold on the franchise system.

If the FFA does select franchises it may well end up with some lame duck clubs when the second division does come in.

Promotion/relegation will become inevitable and clubs like Wollongong Wolves who want to retain their identity instead of becoming a conglomerate with St. George and Sutherland, will wait until they qualify before coming back in numbers.

Millions could be spent on clubs no one wants.

If there are to be franchises then the Territories and Tasmania are the best options, it is unlikely any of the 3 of them will produce a grass roots club strong enough to rise to the A-League.

The rest of the country doesn’t have to be so pragmatic.

Queenslanders can wait til the Strikers rise, South Australians for Adelaide City or West Adelaide, Victorians for SMH, Heidelberg or the Knights and there are a plethora of teams in NSW with national ambitions.

So i put it to you:

Should there be 2 new franchises added or a 2nd division and promote the top 2?

2nd Division and promotion/relegation of one tim only until we can see strenght in 2 division it’s no good for someone to push lots of money into the team one year and no money next year and team folds we are only small country or you could say very far from good competition

I reckon one promotion spot should be a play-off game, say the last placed team in the top tier plays the 2nd placed team in the second tier, or something along those lines. It could be built up to be a massive game every year, and all the promotion opportunities that go with it, quite a few leagues around the world have a promotion/relegation system like that
