Tasmania and Canberra in demand for expansion

This morning Football Alive started a poll between Tasmania and Canberra for an A-League franchise, with over 2,800 respondents it is neck and neck 53% to Canberra and 47% to Tasmania, you can still vote by clicking here.

Our network is 11 pages, 1 for each of the Australian A-League teams, a Socceroos page and Football Alive itself meaning that these votes have been drawn across the A-League, some of the comments on the various pages were extremely interesting.

On the main page, the most popular comment was the elephant in the room no one dare talk of.

The licensing structure of the franchise based A-League seems to be the legal impediment to a meritocracy whereby a pyramid would be enshrined and the opportunity to rise and fall established.

Simply clubs who have a license to play in the top tier can’t be relegated until such time as that license expires.

If franchises are to be maintained, let us hope that the powers that be at the FFA listen to Australia’s fans on this, a truly national competition involving our nation’s capital and the forgotten state of sport itself should be priorities.

Not teams born in a boardroom and playing out of 3 stadiums.
