Socceroos score 3 goals, referee awards ridiculous penalty, videos inside

The Socceroos scored 3 goals for the second consecutive time in a strong performance in front of a partisan crowd in the UAE.

Awer Mabil again continued his fine form in front of goal in Green and Gold with a beautiful goal to start the scoring.

Our lead was short-lived with the Syrians striking straight back with the defence asleep from the restart.

After the break the Socceroos looked comfortable with the ball but remained vulnerable on the break.

Tom Rogic picked out Ikonomidis with a deft pass which snuck across the line with a good decision by the goal line assistant.

The same cannot be said for the referee who gave an incredibly poor decision for a plain dive by the Syrians.

Absolutely ridiculous.

In between Mark Milligan got away with a handball in the box which should have been given as a penalty, it sees as if the referee was evening up the ledger.

Regardless as the Syrians pushed for a winner Tom Rogic answered his Socceroos critics with a goal of real quality taking the ball from a cut back after a move down the right and smashing home from distance.

That goal put the game to rest and assured the Socceroos of a second place finish in the group with a knockout game coming with either Japan or Uzbekistan looming.

If we attack the way we have in our last two games we are a great chance of going through, if we turn off in defence, our odds of progress plummet.

Hopefully whoever referees the match is worth more than the whistle in his pocket, after a howler like that he should be sent back to Under 7’s.

All of our goals.
