The Socceroos saw out a stale 120 minutes of Football with few chances and many yellow cards in Al Ain overnight with the game ultimately going to penalties.
Matt Ryan proved himself the hero making two saves, the first of which showing true nerve standing up tall to a Kevin Muscat style thunderbolt straight down the middle of the goal.
He revealed in the post-match interview that it had been bugging him that he was yet to save a penalty for the Socceroos but he wouldn’t have to wait long for his second.
With Australia a goal ahead by virtue of shooting first Ryan made our advantage count moving to his right with a strong hand to deny the Uzbeks and give Leckie the chance to finish the game off.
He duly obliged with a sweet strike that beat the keeper who had guessed the right way but was unable to stop the quality of the returning Aussies effort.

The Aussies will now have 4 days rest before taking on the UAE in a blockbuster match which is sure to be played before a sell out crowd.
The UAE themselves needed extra time to overcome the lowly Kyrgyz and will have the same tiredness of having played 120 minutes.
Australia may be playing away from home but will be confident of overcoming the gulf side who themselves toiled at home to the lowly Central Asian team.
